Spanish tennis champion Rafael Nadal has finally addressed an off-court topic of him not having children.

Nadal married longtime girlfriend Maria Francisca Perello in 2019 after dating her for more than 14 years.

However, the 21-time Grand Slam champion remains the only Big 3 to have no children.

Roger Federer has four children (two pairs of twins) and Novak Djokovic has a son and a daughter.

Nadal has expressed his opinion of him on the subject, revealing that he loves children but will probably wait to finish his career before starting a family.

Nadal has revealed that it is his and his wife's intention to have children sooner or later.

He said: "I would like to have children: boys, girls. I am a person who loves children and I am a family type. But I also tell you that the reality is that the years continue to pass, I would like to start doing all this when my sporting life will allow it."

Nadal: "I will have children when my sporting life allows it"

The former world number 1 then added that the lifestyle of a tennis player, always on the road, according to his view would not allow him to take care of a child.

In fact he added: "I think it's also and above all about taking care of the children. I don't know if travelling all year and having children is ideal." The Spaniard has been included in the Acapulco entry lists (where he would equal David Ferrer and Thomas Muster, both with 4 Mexican titles) and Indian Wells, but he has made it clear that he will participate after evaluating how he is physical.

Nadal concluded: "I signed up in Acapulco and Indian Wells, but I have to make a decision that is in accord with what my body allows me to do. Acapulco is the closest, I would like to be there, but I have to see what the prospects are."

Nadal has experienced a start of 2022 to be framed. After the foot injury that plagued him in the second half of last season, at the end of December the covid positivity seemed to have significantly reduced the hopes of seeing him on the field at the Australian Open.

The Mallorcan, however, was on the court and against all odds he won his 21st career slam in Australia, beating Daniil Medvedev in a thriller final.
