Chelsea: Potter blames attack as two goals weren't enough to earn the fourth win on the bounce 

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has blamed his side's attack for letting the win get away from them against Everton on Saturday evening. Despite the Blues leading on two separate occasions, they failed to hang on for what would have been their fourth win on the bounce. 

The Blues were pegged back twice at Stamford Bridge as the visitors claimed a share of the spoils with a last-gasp equalizer, a step back to the momentum garnered over the last two weeks.

Having seen Joao Felix's opener canceled out by an Abdoulaye Doucoure header, the hosts quickly restored their advantage courtesy of Kai Havertz from the penalty spot.

As the two teams entered the final moments of the game, it looked as though the points would be staying in west London, before Ellis Simms dramatically leveled things up with his first-ever goal in the competition.

Rather than placing the sole blame on his defense for allowing Simms to equalize late on for the Toffees, Potter also identified his attack as a key culprit for letting Sean Dyche's relegation battlers back into the game.

"I thought the performance overall was positive," Potter told Sky Sports after the game.

"We did a lot of things well, scored a couple of goals but ultimately didn't defend well enough in a couple of actions, which has cost us, and we're disappointed to drop points.

"I think as a team, we could have attacked better in the first place. It's what we spoke about before the game, in terms of how to attack well so that you don't expose yourself to transition, and we did that.

"And then it looked too easy throughout the team, so that's disappointing from our perspective - the second goal, and the first as well. Credit to Everton, they do that well, but we need to do better there.

"I thought we did a lot of positive things, we attacked well - I thought Joao, Kai, CP [Christian Pulisic] combined well, we used the width with Reece [James] and Chilly [Ben Chilwell]. It was a positive performance from us overall but it's hard to say that when you've only got one point."

This point keeps Chelsea in 10th place in the Premier League, only above Aston Villa on goal difference after their earlier win against Bournemouth. 

The Blues now face a two-week hiatus due to the international break before they return to action against Unai Emery's side at the start of April.
