Champions League: Milan backing on Giroud to replicate what Osimhen can do for Napoli

A lot of the focus regarding Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg between Napoli and AC Milan is on the return of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, but the Rossoneri have their own No.9 who is ready for the big occasion.

According to  MilanNews, Osimhen is rightly being billed as Napoli’s main threat for the game at the Maradona because he has athleticism, pace, physicality and aerial ability, but also an extraordinary hunger that makes him a danger at any moment.

However, Olivier Giroud has a career that speaks for itself in terms of experience and huge goals. One of them was scored in Naples back in March 2022, giving Milan a very important victory in the race that then led to the Scudetto.

However, it is not for his ‘know how’ that Giroud should be feared, but because he is a guarantee on a technical and tactical level. The French forward always presses from the front and could be helped by the fact Milan might sit a bit deeper than usual.

That means there will be space for Giroud to operate in at the other end, for him to show his hold-up play and to try find Rafael Leao’s storming runs, with presumably a lot of long balls to come from the back.

Giroud has scored 4 goals in the Champions League this season and is the top scorer in the competition for Milan. He has also scored two goals against Napoli: one in the aforementioned game last March, and another back in September 2022.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal man hasn’t scored since 13 March against Salernitana and, like all his team-mates, he has a great desire to still be decisive.
