Champions League: Camavinga, Rodri fit for Wednesday's tie

Real Madrid suffered a big scare when Eduardo Camavinga limped out of Saturday’s meeting with Getafe.

There was a sigh of relief this morning when the results of an MRI scan on the player’s left knee came back. Camavinga underwent a series of tests in Valdebebas, the results of which were encouraging and ruled out any serious injury. 

The French midfielder was on the receiving end of a kick from Getafe’s Juan Iglesias, causing him to twist his knee.

Test carried out this morning ruled out serious damage to the ligaments of the joint. The club’s diagnosis is a “very slight sprain” to Camaninga’s left knee, which means he should be available for Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final return leg against City.

That will come as a huge relief for Ancelotti because Camavinga is essential in his gameplan to overwhelm Guardiola’s team when the French player joins the attack.

Camavinga will still need to recover - he is not 100% fit but in all likelihood, he will play at the Etihad. His presence reinforcing the midfield is part of the plan for the Italian coach.

Camavinga is Ancelotti’s only worry going into the City match as the rest of his squad are fit and available. Tchouameni, who ended the Getafe game with twinges, has been given a clean bill of health.

In training Valdebebas, Benzema, Rodrygo and Alaba who were all rested as the squad continued with their preparations for Wednesday’s return leg.

Also, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed midfield star Rodri will be fit in time to face Real Madrid.

Guardiola opted to rest certain key names for their 3-0 Premier League weekend win over Everton as they close in on a title defence. The players omitted are expected to come back into the starting XI against Real Madrid with Dutch international Nathan Ake the only absentee at Goodison Park.

Despite Rodri being forced off in the final minutes on Merseyside, Guardiola insisted there is no concern over the Spain international, ahead of facing Carlo Ancelotti’s holders.

Erling Haaland netted his 52nd City goal of the season against the relegation battling Toffees, and Guardiola handed the Norwegian a break in the closing stages, alongside captain Ilkay Gundogan.
