Caf denies 2025 Afcon rescheduling

The governing body of football in Africa Confederation of African Football (Caf) has denied reports indicating the postponement of the much-anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament.

Initially scheduled for the summer of 2025, rumours circulated about a potential postponement due to scheduling conflicts with the new version of the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.

However, Caf has clarified that there are no plans to postpone the Afcon tournament, the body’s Executive Committee will convene to discuss Afcon 2025 dates, followed by an official statement from Caf.

“Reports on Afcon 2025 are untrue. The Caf Executive Committee will meet, deliberate, and make a decision on the Afcon 2025 dates. Caf will thereafter issue an official statement on the matter.” as written by Caf on their official X (formerly Twitter) page.

Luxolo September, the head of communications of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), also said there is no position or announcement by the organisation on the dates for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2025.

"There are ongoing discussions between stakeholders to find common ground on dates. "Caf EXCO will meet to discuss and take a decision soon."
