CAF Cup: Amidst fans' skepticism Enyimba leaves for Maputo to face Black Bulls

Though fans in Aba seem to have lost confidence in the team’s ability, Enyimba has departed the country for their CAF Confederation Cup clash against the Black Bulls of Mozambique.

The People’s Elephant left the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, aboard a United Airlines flight for Lagos on Thursday.

The contingent, which consists of players and officials of the club, connected another flight to Maputo from Lagos.

They are expected to arrive in Maputo on Friday.

The encounter will take place at the Estádio do Zimpeto on Sunday.

Enyimba have recorded one point from their opening two games in the competition.

But former Super Falcons assistant coach Samson Unuanel has backed Enyimba to progress to the knockout stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The People’s Elephant are yet to record a win in the group stage of the competition.

Yemi Olanrewaju’s side lost 2-0 to Egypt’s Al Masry in their first Group D game.

The Aba giants held holders Zamalek to a 2-2 draw last weekend.

Enyimba currently occupies the third position in the group with one point.

“It will be too early to start thinking Enyimba will not qualify for the knockout stages of the CAF Confederations Cup,” said.

“Yes, they have played two draws and sit third in the group, but then, a win will push the team to pole position.

“The result against Zamalek was not bad because they came from two goals down. This result will boost the morale of the players ahead of their next game.

“I am very optimistic that Enyimba will make it to the next round of the competition because they have the experience.”
