Super Eagles and Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has suggested he is only “focussed” on performing well for the Ibrox club at the moment.

According to the Scotsman newspaper, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund are looking to sign Bassey in the summer transfer window.

The youngster has been outstanding throughout the campaign and especially in the Europa League, and there is an obvious interest in him from clubs in Europe.

“I just want to keep my head down and keep pushing hard,” Bassey said as quoted by the Scotsman.

“I’m focused here. I’m here and I’m ready to get ready to come here for pre-season and be fitter than I was last pre-season and ready to see what next season holds for me and the boys.”

Bassey has been outstanding this season for the Gers, and his progress has been nothing short of remarkable.

He has become a cult-hero at the club, and his performance in the Europa League final was top-notch.

At 22, the Nigerian is just getting started. He can be a world-class defender in the future, and Rangers are in no rush to sell him.

The summer transfer window is going to be massive for the club. Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to stamp his own authority on the side, by bringing in players of his choice.

But losing Bassey is not an option for him. With Connor Goldson set to leave, Bassey could be the player to take centre-stage for the Glasgow giants.

He is likely to take the leading role at the club, especially with Leon Balogun also facing an uncertain future.

It would be a catastrophe to lose two quality defenders at the same time.

Meanwhile, BBC pundit Kenny Miller admits that Rangers must be braced for major transfer offers for Bassey this summer.

Miller has even mooted a valuation of as much as £25million if the Scottish Cup winners end up selling him.

The BBC pundit told the Daily Record, “After his outstanding performance in the Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts, Bassey is going to attract big transfer bids this summer.

“I know the supporters might not want to hear that, especially in the aftermath of lifting a trophy.

“But there’s no getting away from it.

“So can Rangers keep him? If they can’t, they need to make sure they get top dollar. Whether that’s £15million, £20million or £25million, they need to hold out for it –because he’s worth it.”

With the season he’s had, we’re not surprised to see so much transfer interest in Bassey.

At 23, he’s already established himself as an incredible defender and he’s only going to get better each season.

The Nigerian is extremely versatile as he can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back.

He left Leicester without a single first-team appearance and he can possibly go back to the Premier League and become a regular starter for most clubs there.

Gers fans will be hoping that he stays on for another season, but if the club receive an offer they cannot refuse, then they will have to cash in on his services.
