Bam Adebayo lavishes praise on his girlfriend, A'ja Wilson, who is on the verge of a fifth WNBA MVP

WNBA superstar A'ja Wilson made history last year by being crowned WNBA MVP for the fourth time, a number of awards that placed her alone in the league's history.

Now, the Las Vegas Aces star is putting together an elite campaign and is looking to claim what would be the fifth MVP award of her career. And her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo, did not hold back praise for her.

A'ja Wilson continues to build a campaign that has made her one of the strongest candidates to win the league MVP.

She is currently averaging 26.8 points per game, nearly matching her mark of 26.9 points per game from two years ago, when she became the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a season. In addition, she contributes 9.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.6 steals.

All of this has inevitably made her name one of the favourites to take home the award she has won on 4 occasions. And her boyfriend could not be more proud.

In an interview with The Athletic, the Miami Heat centre described Wilson’s impact on the WNBA as something difficult to put into words. He also said that her success is "impressive" and that there are not enough words to sum up what she represents both on and off the court:

“Historic,” Adebayo said. “I don’t even know how you put a word to what she’s doing. It’s really breathtaking to see somebody continue to raise the bar. She’s a great person to look up to.”

The truth is that this display of admiration between the two is nothing new and has been constant since they made their relationship public almost 18 months ago, demonstrating their mutual support on and off the court.

Meanwhile, Adebayo’s words come in the midst of another dominant season for the Aces star, whose MVP candidacy is once again backed by her production on both ends of the court and by her team’s success. The Aces (20-9) began the week with the second-best record in the league, thus aiming for their fourth title in five seasons.

Individually, Wilson continues to establish herself as one of the greatest players in league history. After becoming the first basketball player to win four WNBA MVP awards, she is now looking to extend that record with a fifth honour that would further strengthen her legacy and bring her closer to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s six as the player with the most MVP awards across the NBA and WNBA.
