Atalanta wants Lookman to stay

Atalanta are bracing for another challenging window, considering the situations involving Ademola Lookman and Ederson. However, their position is clear, as they don’t want to gut their team mid-season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Nigerian star has looked re-energised following a coaching change and has hit the net in his last two starts. Galatasaray are after him and opened talks with his entourage, proposing lofty wages.

However, there have been no contacts with La Dea at this stage. The player might try to force his way out, as he did in the summer, if he were persuaded by the suitors. There are no indications of that for now.

Atalanta intend to do whatever they can to keep hold of both Lookman and Ederson in January. They need them to stage a comeback in Serie A. They are in 12th place due to their woes under Ivan Juric.

The Brazilian midfielder will be a juicy option for many sides since his contract runs out in 2027, limiting Bergamaschi’s leverage. But they plot to resist in the upcoming window and then take stock at the end of the campaign. The most concrete interest has come from Saudi Arabia at this stage. While such a destination can’t be totally ruled out, he’d rather stay in Europe.

During the summer window, Galatasaray showed some interest in Lookman. The window ends on September 12th in Turkey, but the deadline to submit the UEFA lists is the same as in the rest of Europe, and it is imminent.

Bayern Munich did the same about adding the Nigerian star on an initial loan, but La Dea rebuffed them. The Bavarians ended up onboarding Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea on a massively expensive deal, albeit with a temporary formula at first.

Tottenham kicked the tyres on Lookman, but they opted to sign a different type of forward, Randal Kolo Muani, on a simple loan from PSG.
