Atalanta supporters erect banners warning Lookman to honour the club’s jersey

Atalanta supporters have erected a banner with a clear message targeted at Ademola Lookman after his return to Dea training earlier this week: “Honour the jersey, more bulls*** will not be justified.”

Lookman is not the most popular figure in Atalanta circles as things stand following his failed attempt to force through a move to join Serie A rivals Inter this summer.

The Nerazzurri submitted a €45m bid for the Nigerian international earlier this transfer window, which was rejected by Atalanta.

Lookman then took to Instagram to inform supporters that he had submitted a formal transfer request, citing a gentleman’s agreement with the club while also claiming that Atalanta had broken promises and treated him poorly as a professional and as an individual.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi then confirmed that there was an agreement in place to let the player leave this summer, but only under the right conditions and only for a ‘top club’ outside of Italy.

Lookman then took a period of unauthorised absence for two weeks, returning to the UK to train individually while holding out for a move to Inter.

That move never materialised. Inter decided to move in a different direction in the transfer market, instead focusing on the addition of a new midfielder.

That left Lookman with no choice but to reluctantly return to Atalanta, where he is still training on his own.

Atalanta supporters have made their feelings clear to the Nigerian international with a banner near the training ground, which reads: “Honour the jersey, more bulls*** will not be justified.”
