Aston Villa are willing to sell youngster Carney Chukwuemeka this summer after a contract stand-off cost him a place on the club’s tour of Australia.

Boss Steven Gerrard revealed the 18-year-old, whose deal expires at the end of the coming season, had been left behind amid his reluctance to sign a new one.

He said: ‘Carney is yet to sign a contract offer that has been in place for some time now.

‘I’ve decided the best thing for him would be to continue his training programme back at Bodymoor.’

Chukwuemeka was part of the England Under 19 squad who became European champions earlier this summer and is regarded as one of Villa’s brightest prospects.

But the club are losing patience with his stance and know he would be able to sign for a club overseas from January, with Villa receiving a relatively small compensation fee.

Chukwuemeka has been tracked by Borussia Dortmund, who had huge success signing England internationals Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham at a young age, as well as a number of other clubs in England and across Europe.

The midfielder played 14 times for Villa last season.
