Arsenal's players could pocket bonuses as high as £500k if they guide the club back into the Champions League, according to reports.

The Gunners are aiming to finish in the top four for the first time since 2016 and, again, take their place amongst Europe's elite.

The club have had to make do without the riches that come with Champions League football and their current stars could be handsomely rewarded if they do secure fourth place.

Qualification is worth a huge £50m and bonuses would be dished out, with certain players seeing half a million as the payments are calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Some, according to the Daily Mail, have clauses written into their deals which will see their weekly wages automatically increase whilst Arsenal are in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta's side begun the season with three straight defeats and languished in the bottom three.

However, a renaissance has seen them rise up the table and their latest win over Watford has them in control of their own destiny in fourth.

Arteta was quizzed on the race for the Champions League and said: "I don’t like to look at the table a lot because we have games in hand.

"We’re going to play different fixtures and I know the objective and it’s only one, to try and improve tomorrow on what we’ve done today and go into the next match and that’s it.

"I cannot control results and I cannot predict which matches we are going to win, draw or lose, it’s impossible. If I start to do that I think we’re going to lose focus in what we want to do."

Playing in next season's Champions League will also strengthen the club's hand as they attempt to tie Bukayo Saka down to an improved deal.

The academy graduate is yet to play in Europe's elite club competition despite becoming a fixture with England.

Not since Arsene Wenger's tenure have Arsenal played in the Champions League

Arsenal made the decision to back youth in the summer as they recruited the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Martin Odegaard.
