Manchester United’s flops have been hit by a 25 per cent pay cut after they failed to secure Champions League football.

The Red Devils finished in a disappointing sixth last season - 13 points off Tottenham in fourth.

And as a result, the United squad have had their weekly wages slashed by a quarter.

This has seen Cristiano Ronaldo's weekly income drop to £360k from £480k, with it claimed he is understandably "upset" at being docked.

It has been said that his salary decrease is one of the reasons why the 37-year-old dad of five has asked to leave Old Trafford this summer.

And should he remain at the Theatre of Dreams, he could have his wings severely clipped by the cost-cutting.

It was reported on Monday how the Portugal international had put his £20million private jet up for sale as it is too small for him and his family.

Ronaldo's Gulfstream G200 has served him well with the striker often jetting off on holiday around Europe with partner Georgina Rodriguez and kids.

He also uses the aircraft to fly back and forth to Portugal regularly thanks to its top speed of 560mph.

And even though it can fit up to ten people, Ronaldo is keen for an upgrade.

However, he may have to rethink his plan should he fail to secure a move away - and could even be forced to squeeze up a bit the next time he jets off to the Med with Georgina and Co.

His current United team-mates could also be facing some holiday-blues and may have to consider shaving a few days off at least one of their summer trips next year.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and Marcus Rashford all took well-earned luxury getaways in the off-season.

Midfielder Fred was no different, as he and wife Monique Salum jetted off to Fernando de Noronha, a tiny volcanic island 200 miles off the coast of Brazil.

But with their six-figure weekly wages possibly cut to a crippling five, United's star-studded squad may have to rethink where they intend to take a break... and for how long.

United's players are also known for their love of cars, with Rashford, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw all boasting Mercedes G-Wagons.

Even former Red Devils ace Dan James used to rock up to training in the £100,000 motor.

But the G-Wagon craze may be the latest mainstay of everyday life hit by the financial gloom sweeping the nation, with players struggling to scrape together the funds needed to join the gang.

If ever there was an incentive to get back in the top four this season, then surely that is it.
