After WAFCON and World Cup qualification failures, NFF sacks Super Falcons coaching crew
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked Nigeria's Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, and his crew.
The Executive Committee reached the decision after the team's poor performance at the recently concluded 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The nation’s football governing body announced the sack of Madugu and his technical crew following their return from WAFCON, where the Falcons crashed out at the quarter-final stage.
They also failed to qualify automatically for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and lost to South Africa for a chance to reach the World Cup via the playoffs.
The NFF has, therefore, relieved the coaches in a terse statement released on its X account.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Madugu won Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title last year, but the quest for an 11th title was riddled with shoddy preparations, team incidents, and poor performances from several key players in Morocco.
Madugu was announced as Super Falcons interim coach in September 2024, and got a two-year contract in October 2025 following his WAFCON heroics.
He leaves the role after two years in charge.
