Ladan Bosso, the coach of the Flying Eagles, expressed disappointment with the way his team lost their chance to make their 10th appearance in a final match at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite dominating the game, the Flying Eagles lost 1-0 to Gambia's Young Scorpions in the semi-final match played at the Cairo International Stadium on Monday.

Adama Bojang scored what was his fourth goal of the tournament just eight minutes into the game due to a mix-up in the Nigeria backline.

Bosso, visibly disappointed, said after the game that his team have themselves to blame having missed numerous chances and even failed to convert the penalty kick they won late in the game.

Ahmed Abdullahi, a substitute, won and missed the penalty.

Bosso stated that his team had been naive from the start and that contributed largely to their defeat

“We lost stupidly, we were naive from the start," Bosso said.

"We failed to take our chances and we also missed the penalty in the 86th minute.

"I am very frustrated because we had the team to go all the way. Football is cruel.

"We didn't measure up. I congratulate The Gambia for winning," he added.

The Young Scorpions of Gambia will play against Senegal in the TotalEnergies U20 AFCON final, while the Flying Eagles will play against Tunisia for third place.
