Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has described Nigeria’s shock defeat to Guinea-Bissau as a bad day in the office.

Though disappointed, he admitted there could have been no other outcome.

Mama Balde punished the Nigerian defence with a neatly executed goal in the 30th minute and Guinea-Bissau held out for three points.

The victory took Baciro Cande’s men top of group with 7points, and one more than the favorites.

It was the first time Nigeria had dropped points in the qualifiers, the Super Eagles had win their previous two matches; 2-1 against Sierra Leone and beat Sao Tome and Principe 10-0.

However, with the array of attacking options in the team, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu, the team could hardly threaten the opponent’s goal.

Speaking at the post-match Presser, Peseiro who has come under intense scrutiny following his team’s miserable run of three consecutive defeats leading to Friday’s match, suggested he wasn’t worried about getting sacked.

“It is just one match,” the 64 year-old told journalists at the MKO Abiola Stadium media center.

Describing why his team flopped, Peseiro said,” Firstly, congratulations to Guinea-Bissau. Secondly, we missed many goalscoring chances.

“But, I think if we played for another hour, we still wouldn’t score; sometimes it happens in football.”

“I’m not happy of course, I’m sad with my team. But they did the max, they created many opportunities but it was a bad day.”
