Afcon 2025: Troost-Ekong shift focus to Libya match as Rwanda coach praises Eagles

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong was happy with the team’s performance against the Amavubi of Rwanda.

The West Africans held their hosts to a 0-0 draw in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday two encounters.

The three-time African champions created the better chances in the game but were let down by their poor marksmanship.

“ I am proud of the team, it’s always difficult to play away from home, not the best conditions, the pitch was not good enough,” Troost-Ekong said after the game.

”I think we put in a good performance, we created a lot of chances, we could have scored two, three four goals. I think we have to look at that objectively and say it was a positive.’’

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru however stated that it’s a good thing they didn’t lose the game.

“I think we played well, it was going to be difficult, playing away. They have their fans cheering them. Of course, there are a lot of circumstances to consider too,” the Lazio midfielder said after the game.

“The problem is that we couldn’t convert our chances, we created a lot of chances to win the game. We have take positive that we didn’t concede.

“This result will boost our chances of qualifying for the AFCON. It is not the result we wanted but not a bad one.”

Rwanda coach, Torsten Frank Spittler, singled out Super Eagles frontline players for praise following both teams’ goalless draw on Tuesday.

Spittler branded the Super Eagles forwards as world-class, adding that they are not on the same level as Rwanda strikers.

“Everybody could see this Nigerian team, especially the forward line is world-class, and we also had a few chances where you could see the difference between our strikers and their strikers,” Spittler told reporters after the game.

Spittler also expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.

“I’m very happy not only because of the result but also the way we played. It’s always important that you make a good match, and then I said normally the results will come,” Torsten Frank Spittler told reporters.

“Everybody could see this Nigerian team, especially the forward line is world-class, and we also had a few chances where you could see the difference between our strikers and their strikers.

“It was a good match from our side against a very strong team with a lot of confidence coming from their 3-0 home win, so I’m very happy with the result but also the way we played.”
