Afcon 2025 Qualifier: Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu to work with Eguavoen as Super Eagles camp opens on Monday

The interim manager of the Super Eagles Austin Eguavoen has invited Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede and Rangers coach Fidelis Ileckuwu his assistant coaches to the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen, who is the technical director of NFF, will take charge of the Super Eagles for the two games.

Ogunmodede is one of the popular coaches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The young tactician has guided Remo Stars to second place finish in the last two seasons.

He signed a new three-year contract with the Sky Blue Stars last month.

The Super Eagles will host neighbours Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles players are expected to report to their Uyo camp on Monday, ahead of the matches against the Benin Republic and Rwanda, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF released a 23-man squad for the two games last Tuesday.

Some of the early birds expected on Monday include Fulham duo Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Victor Boniface, Samuel Chukweuze, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who featured in league games for their clubs on Friday and Saturday.

Others expected are Nottingham Forest duo Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Olisa Ndah, Victor Osimhen, former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, and Semilogo Ajayi.

Others, like goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Raphael Onyedika, and Kelechi Iheanacho, are also expected as soon as possible, having featured for their clubs on Sunday.
