Afcon 2023: NFF wants Moffi to replace injured Boniface subject to CAF and Ligue 1 approval

The Super Eagles have announced that Terem Moffi has replaced injured Victor Boniface on the final AFCON squad pending approval of both CAF and the French Ligue 1 club of Moffi, OGC Nice.

Super Eagles spokesman Babafemi Raji said in a terse statement: “Victor Boniface is out and Terem Moffi takes his place pending approval of CAF and concurrence of his club.”

Boniface will now fly back to Germany for his club medics to tackle his groin injury that will sideline him for several weeks.

Moffi was a shock omission on the final squad after consistency and goals in Ligue 1 since 2020.

Moffi’s French club celebrated when he did not make the final cut for the AFCON with his coach even describing the striker as his team’s “best new signing” of the transfer window after they had resigned themselves to losing him for the continental tournament.
